Who’s it for?

It’s for anyone! Whether you’re an absolute beginner or a seasoned fighter the adult K1 class is for you. There’s a real mix of people that take part in our adult kickboxing training, from younger students who have progressed from the junior classes, active fighters who compete regularly, Mum’s and Dad’s who want to be able to train with their kids at home, people who find going to the gym boring but still want to stay physically active. We have students who did martial arts as children who are getting back into it after 20 odd years, and fight fans who just want to know a bit more about the sport.

Why Kickboxing?

Although it can take a lifetime to master, you’ll find it possible to get to a respectable level relatively quickly by concentrating on the basics. Flexibility is a great thing, but lack of it is really not a barrier to participating.

There is no pressure to go beyond the regular classes, but we also offer a sparring class for those that wish to take it further, and also opportunities to compete.

We focus on the K1 Kickboxing rule set, but also train Muay Thai clinch work, enabling our students to compete in multiple disciplines if they wish. It also translates very well to Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) if that is an ambition for the future.

Going further

Our regular classes are mainly non-contact, with the occasional semi-contact drill thrown in. We concentrate on the basics, in this sport you can go a long, long way just with the basics! But sooner or later you may want to take it a little further, maybe try your hand at sparring and maybe even compete. Let us know if that is your aim and we’ll let you know when you are ready to take the next step and invite you to the sparring class.

Class Structure

In the adults class, students train together, holding hand pads and Thai pads for one another. There are no cliques, advanced students help beginners, knowing they are building the very best training partners for the future.

Yes, we run a comprehensive grading system approved by the BMABA. Gradings are held 3 times a year. Students will be told the criteria for their grade in class, not everyone will grade everytime! There is no pressure to grade, it is optional.
If they are fifteen or over! Otherwise they’ll have to train in their own age group. Having children in the adults class (and vice versa) is not beneficial for anyone involved. It may seem like it a good idea, but neither of you would get anything out of the training. However if you both train in your own age groups, you will be learning the same thing, meaning you can train at home together.
Shorts or jogging bottoms/leggings, and a t-shirt. Also bring a drink, preferably water, in a re-useable bottle.
We have gloves you can borrow BUT they don’t smell particularly great! We recommend getting your own gloves, they don’t have to cost a lot, £12 to £15. You’ll need a minimum of 10oz gloves (if you intend to do sparring in the future then 14-16oz maybe a better choice). You can buy these from Amazon or Ebay, makes like Farabi, MaxX and Lion are good quality and very reasonably priced. Please DO NOT buy the Lonsdale gloves from Sports Direct, they are poor quality and offer no protection or wrist support.
Please don’t arrive any more than a few minutes before class begins as you will be waiting outside for the previous class to leave. The gym is small and our teen classes are very busy, there is no room for you to wait inside for your class to begin.
No, we do not offer free trials. We have a waiting list for most classes and our prices are exceptionally low. You will see other martial arts schools constantly using paid advertising on social media, offering free trials to gain new members as they struggle to attract and retain students. When spaces do open up for any of our classes they tend to be filled very quickly.
