If you’ve done any martial arts training or combat sports before, you’ll notice we do things a little differently!
Combat gyms are well known for inflated egos, infact some positively encourage it. Not at Get Hyped! We work as a team, student to student, student to coach and coach to coach. We encourage each other and drive one another forward. Every body knows that to be the best we need to train with the best, so we strive to make our training partners the best they can be. If necessary we sacrifice our training time safe in the knowledge that we will reap the rewards from the addition of yet another great training partner in the gym.
How many times have you gone to an adults class and there are kids in it, or maybe you’ve taken kids to a ‘junior’ class only to find there are five year olds and teenagers being taught together? IT DOESN’T WORK! We run age specific classes, 3/4 years, 5/6 years, 7/10 years and Adults (14+). All junior classes have their own curriculum, aligned to the stages of development. Why don’t all martial arts schools do this? Because it takes a lot of work! We take our syllabus development very seriously, and believe we have created the most comprehensive K1 kickboxing curriculum available.
‘I want them to do Martial Arts to learn some respect.’ We hear this a lot. People tend to think respect in Martial Arts is about bowing and calling the coach Sensei or whatever title they insist on, along with doing countless push ups or burpees when they are deemed to have done something wrong. This is NOT respect, it is a POWER TRIP! It builds resentment and hatred of an activity that is supposed to be fun. We earn our students respect, just as they earn our respect, they call us by our first names and if you want proof that this is a better way, then you should see our student retention rates!
In a time where sedentary lifestyles are the norm, and parents face an endless battle to get children away from the multitude of screens in their life, we need to make exercise a positive force in young peoples life. Yet the very places we take children to be active use exercise as a punishment. ‘You’re late, 20 burpees’ or ‘Losers do 20 push ups’. What message does this send? That exercises are for losers? That fitness is punishment? That’s not the message we should be sending out! Let’s be positive about things that are good for us.
We keep our student to coach ratio extremely low so you are guaranteed to get the help and feedback you need. Most insurance companies insist on a maximum of 14 students per coach, at Get Hyped, you can generally expect a student to coach ratio of 3:1 for the youngest age group, rising to 6:1 for adult classes. All our coaches are FULLY qualified to a minimum of Level 2, insured, first aid and safeguarding qualified, with an enhanced DBS check.
