Our community

With a reputation for being a town for the over 60’s, Frinton’s demographic is changing fast. With an ever increasing population of young families living in the area the change in infrastructure and service provision is not keeping pace. While the area is hopefully in a transitional phase, everything seems to be set up with the elderly in mind and the lack of facilities and activities on offer for young people is appalling. The community centres and church halls are fully booked with tea dances, bridge, cribbage and sewing circles making it nearly impossible for anyone who wanted to offer something for the younger people in the area to do so.

The Get Hyped Studio is small in size but well equipped and well situated. Within walking distance of three local schools and a short bus ride from two others.

How much are classes?

Classes start at £5 per session. Click here for full details

Can I just come along?

No, you need to speak to us first. We are a small gym and numbers are limited. We often have waiting lists for classes. Insurance for combat sports specifies a coach to student ratio and we must remain within that at all times. Book your place here.

Can my child train with me?

If they are fifteen or over! Otherwise they’ll have to train in their own age group. Having children in the adults class (and vice versa) is not beneficial for anyone involved. It may seem like it a good idea, but neither of you would get anything out of the training. However if you both train in your own age groups, you will be learning the same thing, meaning you can train at home together.

What should I wear?

Shorts or jogging bottoms/leggings, and a t-shirt. Also bring a drink, preferably water, in a re-useable bottle.

Do I need my own gloves?

We have gloves you can borrow BUT they don’t smell particularly great! We recommend getting your own gloves, they don’t have to cost a lot, £12 to £15. You’ll need a minimum of 10oz gloves (if you intend to do sparring in the future then 14-16oz maybe a better choice). You can buy these from Amazon or Ebay, makes like Farabi, MaxX and Lion are good quality and very reasonably priced. Please DO NOT buy the Lonsdale gloves from Sports Direct, they are poor quality and offer no protection or wrist support.

What time should I arrive for class?

Please don’t arrive any more than a few minutes before class begins as you will be waiting outside for the previous class to leave. The gym is small and our teen classes are very busy, there is no room for you to wait inside for your class to begin.

Do you offer a FREE trial lesson?

No, we do not offer free trials. We have a waiting list for most classes and our prices are exceptionally low. You will see other martial arts schools constantly using paid advertising on social media, offering free trials to gain new members as they struggle to attract and retain students. When spaces do open up for any of our classes they tend to be filled very quickly.
